THE QURANIC TEXT IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF CONTEMPORARY ORIENTALISM, BELL/MONTGOMERY MODEL, IN: SCIENCE OF THE QUR’AN IN CONTEMPORARY EPISTEMIC (RELIGIOUS STUDIES), RABAT: MOMINOUN WITHOUT BORDERS, 2018

This book chapter deals with the approach of the contemporary Scottish Orientalist William Montgomery Watt on the Quranic text, based on Richard Bell's book The Introduction to the Quran. First of all, to delve into the vision of this modern orientalist on different aspects and concepts of the Quran among which history, structure, terminology, and collection of the Quran. Then, to reveal a number of contrasts and overlaps between the modern and classical orientalist Quran studies.

A range of questions is discussed in this study: What is the nature of Bell/Montgomery's discourse on Islam? To what extent is the biblical framework influenced this approach of the Quran? How did Montgomery assume the universality of Islam? How did he interpret the fundamental concepts of the Quran including revelation, Gabriel, Prophet Mohammad, the collection of the Quran, and others. In his approach to the Quran text, Montgomery has used a historical critical and skeptical method.

QURANIC EDUCATION IN EUROPE, FLANDERS AS AN EXAMPLE, GHENT: IDARA , 2013

The reality of Muslims in the West in general and in Europe in particular cannot be understood without addressing the institution of the mosque. It is an institution that has become of paramount importance, especially in our contemporary pluralistic societies. The functions of the mosque vary, which is no longer limited to performing the five daily prayers and Friday prayer, but rather its functions are educational, cultural and social. The mosque is a school for teaching Arabic, teaching Islamic education and memorizing the Qur’an. The mosque is a place for the cross-pollination of diverse cultures that differ from one racial or ethnic group to another. The mosque is a social institution in which Muslims meet each other: women and men, old and young, during various religious and social occasions. The mosque is an open space for Muslims and non-Muslims to practice dialogue, cooperation, exchange experiences, and eat together. Thus, the mosque plays a crucial role not only in preserving the original identity of Muslims, but also in bridging this identity with the values of our modern European and Western society.

This book of Tijani Boulaouali came to examine the reality of teaching and memorizing the Qur’an in Belgium in general, and Flanders in particular, where the Moroccan experience is widely attended in various cities such as Brussels, Anvers and Ghent. In this regard, we focused on the Educational Center "Al Markaz Al Tarbawi" in the city of Ghent, which embraces a pioneering Quranic experience that has preserved the Moroccan Warsh reading for four decades, an experiment supervised by Sheikh Mustafa Al-Diwani.
